The project
At the edge of the Landes forest, this straw house illustrates the studio's bioclimatic approach: passive design, bio-sourced materials and integration into the local agricultural landscape.
The compressed straw bale walls, coated with clay render inside and out, provide remarkable thermal inertia and a 12-hour thermal lag that maintains coolness in summer without air conditioning. The wall thermal resistance far exceeds RE2020 requirements.
Bioclimatic orientation, mobile timber-blade solar shading and an earth heat exchanger complete the passive system to cover almost all heating and cooling energy needs.
The house obtained the E3C2 label (energy positive, very low carbon footprint) and was presented at the Bordeaux Architecture and Bio-sourced Materials Fair in 2023.
