The project
This extension of a 1970s house adds 55 m² of living space using a fully timber lightweight structure. The charred timber cladding echoes the dark colour of the existing roof to ensure visual coherence.
The new volume houses a double-height library lounge lit by a roof lantern. The articulation with the existing building was carefully considered: a polished concrete threshold symbolically marks the transition between old and new.
The green roof on the extension improves stormwater management and enhances thermal insulation. The anthracite grey powder-coated aluminium windows ensure airtightness and acoustic insulation.
Planning permission was obtained in 7 weeks thanks to a detailed architectural statement prepared ahead of the submission.
