The project
In the heart of the Chartrons neighbourhood, this 19th-century apartment was completely reimagined for a couple who wanted to combine historic character with contemporary living.
The original volumes were preserved — herringbone parquet, plaster mouldings, marble fireplaces — while the interior partitions were reconfigured to create an open, light-filled plan. The insertion of raw steel and solid oak elements creates a dialogue between old and new.
The bespoke kitchen, designed by the studio, engages with the 3.20 m ceiling height. A central solid oak island structures the space and invites convivial gatherings.
The thermal renovation of the envelope reclassified the apartment as energy category D, with an estimated 40% reduction in energy consumption.
